Schools Industry Challenge

Over 120 S2 pupils from Mearns Academy got an insight into running their own businesses at the Glenbervie site taking part in a Schools Industry Challenge. Designed by Scottish Food & Drink, in association with Scottish Enterprise, the initiative aims to develop productive links between secondary schools and local food and drink manufacturers.

The students were asked to form their own companies and choose packaging, marketing, production and manufacturing teams and a Chief Executive from amongst their peers. With a brief to launch a healthy eating muffin, they face four mini challenges: Decide on the product values; Manufacture the product; Design the packaging and Plan the marketing campaign. Their hard work was then displayed at a trade fair where the results were judged by a panel led by Chief Executive, Alastair Macphie.
